“Addressing Tobacco Use and Mental Health Challenges in Pregnant Individuals / Postpartum Individuals”
In mid-2023, IFWTC Educational Director presented two webinars in this important series led by the National Behavioral Health Network for Tobacco & Cancer Control. The first session, “Addressing Tobacco Use and Mental Health Challenges in Pregnant Individuals: Part 1,” (July 20) focused on the intersecting risks of tobacco use and mental-health conditions in pregnancy, and highlighted system-based and peer-support interventions to reduce disparities.
The follow-up session, “Addressing Tobacco Use and Mental Health Challenges in Postpartum Individuals – Part 2,” (August 17) extended the discussion to the postpartum period, examining evidence-based strategies for cessation support, policy implementation, and clinical practice for individuals with co-occurring mental-health/substance-use and tobacco-use disorders. #BHtheChange I was honored to contribute to this initiative at the intersection of tobacco-treatment, behavioral health and maternal health — and to support efforts that promote integrated, equity-oriented care for pregnant and postpartum individuals facing complex challenges.
