ADHD Diagnosis and Treatment for Women and Girls

About the Program

ADHD in women and girls is often misdiagnosed, mistreated, and misunderstood. This integrative lecture features up to date information regarding evidence-based techniques for diagnosing and treating ADHD in this unique and important demographic. A brief, four-session mindfulness protocol for treating women with ADHD will be shared, and utilization of techniques of cognitive behavioral therapy in-person as well as via telehealth will be discussed. Medication management and holistic treatments will also be introduced and explored. All evidence-based treatments will be focused on their interplay with women’s changing hormones across the lifespan.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the activity, participants will be able to:

  • discuss diversity, equity and inclusivity challenges and opportunities within ADHD assessment.
  • assess the interplay of women’s hormones throughout the lifespan and the effect these may have on ADHD diagnosis.
  • utilize real-world examples of diagnostic skills for diagnosis of ADHD among women, across the lifespan.
